IN SUPPORT OF OUR VISION, THE DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES SUPPORT FOUNDATION INVESTS IN FOUR BOLD FUNDING IDEAS

2026 Developmental Services Support Foundation (DSSF) Giving Fund Policy

The Developmental Services Support Foundation (DSSF) Board of Directors has set the following policy regarding requests for emergency or supportive funding as well as DSSF Internship Programs: Donations from the Developmental Services Support Foundation are determined by our Board of Directors in a timely manner based upon funds available and the long-term impact on individual quality of life. The funding forms are available to download on dssfgiving.org.

Guidelines:  Typical Limit per each request: $500

  • All requests must be submitted on the DSSF Check Request form or DSSF Event form. Event Requests must include a DSSF Sample Budget form.
  • Forms must be properly filled out, vetted by the organization, and routed to the foundation via email. Type written is preferred or readable print writing.
  • The board wants to know why the request is needed. Please include information about client needs, family contributions, donations by other organizations and any professional services discounts on the DSSF Check Request form or DSSF Event form.

Categories of Support

  • DSSF Internship Program 60%
  • Emergency/Supportive 10%
  • Non covered Health and Dental Services 10%
  • Leadership Training/Events 10%
  • Technology 10%
  • Invoices and Receipts are required for requests for DSSF donations

The DSSF board primarily supports Kern Regional Center clients for emergency funding requests via KRC but will consider limited requests from other nonprofit organizations serving the special needs community.

Types of funding requests covered:

  • Communication devices, technology equipment (tablets,) vehicle transfer equipment, hearing aids, pest elimination services, emergency furniture replacement, specific KRC staff training and other organizational support.
  • Emergency medical/dental funds. DSSF typically contributes only to noncovered emergency medical or dental expenses. An invoice from a physician or dentist must accompany the check request. DSSF requires receipts.
  • Emergency funeral expenses. DSSF does not pay all funeral expenses, but can assist in emergencies, depending upon the circumstances. An invoice from the funeral home must accompany the check request.
  • The mission of the foundation is to benefit KRC clients. In 2021 that mission took the shape of funding KRC staff training Leadership Training Workshops and KRC Annual Programs.
  • Please call Glen or Diana at DSSF – 661-326-0603 with questions.

Note: All KRC requests for emergency funding are routed and vetted through a KRC Program Manager
The foundation requires other nonprofits seeking funding to vet their requests through their agency via one individual.

The DSSF board does not consider donation requests in the following areas except in extreme emergencies:

  • Rent/Utilities
  • Clothing
  • iPhones
  • Repeat requests for the same individual or family
  • Housing Repair
